English-taught programmes in Austria
German is the main language of instruction at undergraduate level, but Austria has expanded English-taught offerings, especially in business, engineering, computer science and international relations at master's level.

Where to find English-taught degrees
Use programme search with the English language filter. WU Vienna, TU Wien, University of Vienna, FH campuses and Innsbruck universities offer notable English master's programmes. Always confirm on the official programme page, catalogues update each year.
Do you still need German?
For daily life, basic German helps enormously, housing viewings, part-time jobs and bureaucracy are easier. Some programmes require German at B2 for graduation even if teaching is in English. Check language clauses before you apply.

Can I study in Austria without speaking German?
At master's level, yes for many programmes. For bachelor's degrees, German is usually required. Living in Austria without German is possible in Vienna but limiting elsewhere.
Is IELTS required for English-taught programmes?
Most universities accept IELTS, TOEFL, or Cambridge certificates. Minimum scores vary, typically IELTS 6.0–6.5 for master's programmes. Some waive tests if your prior degree was in English.
