1. Our commitment

GoAustria is built for a global community of students and professionals. We treat personal data protection as a core requirement, not an afterthought. Our practices are designed to align with:

  • GDPR, EU General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679)
  • Austrian DSG, Datenschutzgesetz
  • ePrivacy rules, electronic communications and cookie consent requirements
  • International principles, OECD Privacy Guidelines and ISO/IEC 27001 security-by-design concepts

2. Privacy by design

We implement data minimisation and security at every layer:

  • Moderation before public display of community content
  • Role-based admin access with audit logging
  • Encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) across the site
  • Granular cookie consent with reject and customise options
  • Identity documents used only for verification review, not public display
  • Passwords handled through industry-standard hashing via our auth provider

3. Your control

You can exercise GDPR rights at any time:

  1. Email privacy@goaustria.org with your request
  2. We verify your identity to protect your account
  3. We respond within 30 days (extendable to 60 days for complex requests as permitted by law)

Manage cookies instantly via Cookie settings in the footer or our Cookie Policy.

4. Data Processing Agreement

Where we act as a processor for institutional partners, we execute Data Processing Agreements (DPAs) with appropriate technical and organisational measures. For standard platform use, we act as controller, see our Privacy Policy.

5. Breach notification

In the event of a personal data breach likely to affect your rights, we will notify the Austrian Data Protection Authority within 72 hours where required and inform affected users without undue delay when the risk is high.

6. Supervisory authority

You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. In Austria, the competent authority is:

Österreichische Datenschutzbehörde (DSB)
Barichgasse 40-42, 1030 Vienna, Austria
www.dsb.gv.at
